Château de Fayolle

Château de Fayolle was built in 1766. Nestled in the heart of Périgord Vert, it is located in the commune of Tocane Saint Apre, close to the popular tourist sites of Périgueux (22km), Aubeterre sur Dronne (32km), Brantôme en Périgord (27km) and Bourdeilles (18km).

From the Middle Ages

The château as we see it today, along with the two outbuildings and the dovecote, dates from the late 18th century. However, it was built on the foundations of a late medieval edifice.

La famille Fayolle, ancrée de manière immémoriale dans le Périgord, a laissé une empreinte indélébile sur le Château de Fayolle et ses terres environnantes. Cités dès le 10ème siècle, les premiers membres connus de cette famille illustrent une lignée noble dont les filiations établies remontent au XIIIe et XIVe siècles. La famille porte le nom d’un  fief situé à la frontière du « comté du Périgord » aussi son histoire est-elle intimement liée à la garde du pont de Tocane, situant le château actuel dans un cadre dépourvu de toute stratégie défensive apparente, mais riche d’une profondeur historique et culturelle.
